Baroness Helen Newlove, the Victims’ Commissioner for England and Wales, has died following a short illness, the Office of the Victims’ Commissioner confirmed.

In a statement, the office said it was “deeply saddened” by her passing and extended condolences to her family.

Baroness Newlove was widely respected for her unwavering advocacy for victims, shaped by her own experience of the criminal justice system. She championed compassion, dignity and respect for all victims, and her leadership significantly strengthened the role of the Victims’ Commissioner, elevating it into a trusted and influential voice for victims’ rights.
